Dear future me,

This is the last day you get to stand on the river bank

Playing counsellor to a marriage that’s as old as time

I think you love them both just as much

The giddy rush of holding a whole world in a misplaced step.

You better go out in style

A two step to a jazz beat

On a beach

Where the heavens meet earth in a Kaleidoscope

And the sands of time don’t just run through your fingers

They make castles that never crumble
under
the weight of the world.

I know he’s wavey.

But if he’s out of reach

Still

I hope you know your little kingdom still stands strong.

Please travel.

Learn to skip rocks on the coast

So you can try to touch horizons

Or go on Safari in Kenya

So you can say you’ve seen that real beauty is more than a filter

Get drenched in a rainforest

So you can feel that trees can mean a different kind of escape

Go to smoky jazz bars

Get a puppy that pees on your favourite Tee

See movies alone if you have to

Just do whatever turns feeling boxed in

To sides of another picture frame.

Believe that just because you lost your Rock

Or those butterflies turned to Ash

That everything you hate

Somebody will want to catch ‘em all

Just to get a Pikachu.

(Stay being a nerd.)

Accept everything you are and everything you can be.

Because if you could see such potential in him

There may be so many who will see it in me.

But if you never lust again

Or you’re too busy making everyday a dream

You better go out in style

A two step to a jazz beat

On a beach

Where the heavens meet earth in a Kaleidoscope

And the sands of time don’t just run through your fingers

They make castles that never crumble
under
the weight of the world.
